School Houses and Colours
The House System is designed to embody the values and ethos of the school and aims to be an integral part of our school community. It is our ambition that the House Captains inspire and motivate the younger students to further the community spirit of the school and work together with staff to achieve the school's aims.
House Organisation
- Students are assigned to one of five Houses (Bussell, Hockney, Mackintosh, McCartney, Rowling) on entry to the school in Year 7 where they remain until the end of Year 13; where possible younger siblings will become a member of the same House.
- Each member of staff is also attached to a House.
- Each House has a staff leader and two students who are House Captain and Vice House Captain, who will act as representatives for all the students in their House throughout the year by helping co-ordinate the House Team, organising activities and events and representing their House at relevant meetings with support from the House Leader.
How to earn House Points.
Each House is in competition with the others to achieve the highest number of House Points at the end of each half term and most importantly by the end of the year when there is the House Cup to win.
Regular House Point totals and competition wins are advertised and celebrated during House Assembly once every half term.
Students can contribute to their House Point totals in a number of ways both in and out of the classroom. All students are expected to participate in at least one of the many House events/activities.
House Competitions
House Competitions form an important part of the school ethos to help develop a sense of community and team spirit across the school. They are wide ranging and designed to be fun as well as help students develop skills that will help them be successful in life; teamwork, leadership and creativity for example.
Each competition has points allocated to it. The winning House will be awarded 10 points, second 7 and so on down to fifth place 1. Certain competitions will also have 1 point awarded for each entry or person taking part. Students can therefore make a difference through just taking part and being part of their House community.
Throughout the year attendance and achievement points will be in ongoing competitions. Every half term the house with the best attendance will be awarded 10 points , second 7 and so on. The same for the number of achievement points.
School Colours
At school we realise that students have many different talents and skills. We seek to recognise these through our rewards system; full colours and half colours are part of this system.
Full colours and half colours are awarded in the following areas: Arts, Academic, Sports, Community and Leadership.
