Celebrating Excellence in Learning

The Striving Stars programme is our exclusive rewards initiative designed to recognise and celebrate the top 5% of students in each year group who consistently demonstrate outstanding behaviour for learning. This programme appreciates the dedication, commitment, and excellence of these exceptional students, who go above and beyond in their academic and personal growth.

The goal of Striving Stars is to inspire students to maintain high standards of effort, focus, and positivity in all aspects of their learning journey. By acknowledging and rewarding these achievements, we aim to motivate students to continue striving for success, setting a benchmark for others to follow.

In addition to public recognition, Striving Stars offers a range of exciting benefits, including:

  • A Speaker Event Each Half-Term: Students have the opportunity to attend exclusive talks and presentations from inspiring individuals who share valuable insights into success, leadership, and personal growth.
  • An Annual Rewards Trip: Once a year, Striving Stars students are rewarded with an exciting trip as recognition for their hard work and dedication.
  • Pre-Selection for Super-Curricular Opportunities: These students are given priority consideration for a variety of enrichment activities, helping them develop further skills and broaden their horizons.

Through Striving Stars, we not only celebrate individual excellence but also foster a culture of ambition, resilience, and opportunity within our school community.

  • 20 achievement points each time you meet the criteria.
  • A striving stars badge on Satchel.

There are also additional achievement points available for students who complete super curriculum tasks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the intent of the Striving Stars programme?

“Without effort, your talent is nothing more than unmet potential. Without effort, your skill is nothing more than what you could have done but didn't.”

― Angela Duckworth, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance

At TBS we recognise that there are students with exceptional potential in one or more areas who display real passion and enthusiasm for specific subjects. Effort is a key characteristic in realising their potential and becoming a high achiever.  The Striving Stars programme aims to nurture students’ talents, foster intellectual curiosity and
develop scholarship enabling them to realise their full potential. This is achieved through purposely challenging academic material and a bespoke super-curricular programme.

What are the aims of the programme?

Through the striving stars programme TBS aims to provide opportunities for students to enable them to realise their full potential.

Our specific foci are:

Leadership and Initiative: The opportunity to take on leadership roles in academic or extracurricular activities, and demonstrates initiative in driving positive change within the school community.

Collaboration and Communication: The opportunity to work with peers and contribute  constructively to group projects and discussions.

Community Involvement: The opportunity to engage in activities that benefit the wider community, demonstrating a sense of social responsibility and empathy towards others.

Personal Growth: The opportunity for personal growth and development, both academically and personally, over time.

Students will be given opportunities to participate in additional qualifications such as the Higher Project Qualifications, independent enrichment through the TBS Super Curriculum  and access to a programme of outside speakers who bring real world experiences and will inspire them to consider opportunities they may not otherwise have been aware of.

The Striving Stars Programme will have a transformative impact on our students, fostering a culture of excellence and growth. By providing tailored academic support and enrichment opportunities, the programme will enable students to move beyond their taught curriculum. Participants will demonstrate enhanced critical thinking skills, a  deeper appreciation of applications of their learning, and an enrichment of their learning experience.

Moreover, the programme will support students to fully develop a resilience and self-confidence, which will enable them to meet future challenges successfully. The holistic approach of the Striving Stars Programme will ensure that students not only excel academically but also develop essential life skills, such as resilience, leadership, and effective communication.

The success of our Striving Stars will be a testament to the programme's ability to inspire and realise the potential within each student, preparing them for future academic pursuits and lifelong success.

What is the criteria for the Striving Stars Programme?

Students qualify to be a part of the programme by achieving in the top 5% of their year group across their subjects and having behaviour grades of ‘a’ or ‘b’ across the board. This is re-evaluated after each assessment point and students may be invited to join the programme, or may no longer qualify to be part of the programme.
