Admissions
We are delighted that you are interested in joining The Beaconsfield School. The Beaconsfield School is a vibrant and innovative school that is committed to enhancing the life chances of every student, through high expectations and first class teaching.
We create a positive atmosphere where individuals are given every opportunity to flourish and make excellent progress. We are an inclusive school that challenges and nurtures individuals to help them reach their full potential.
We pride ourselves on providing students with positive learning experiences within the curriculum and through our extensive extra-curricular programme. The programmes involve a wide range of arts and leisure activities, and we encourage our students to take part. All of the extra curricular clubs help our students develop confidence and some lead to accredited qualifications. We want our students to enjoy their education, do well academically, develop their love of learning and develop personally and socially as active citizens in our community.
I am immensely proud of the students and staff at The Beaconsfield School. We have many visitors to our school who comment on the enthusiasm, vitality, self confidence and creativity of the students. I truly believe that without a doubt we are helping to prepare our students to make their own way confidently in the world. The staff at school are dedicated, supportive and ambitious for every student. We are forward thinking and will do our best to enable your child to flourish.
I look forward to welcoming you to our school.

Information for In-Year Transfer Students
Admissions Procedure
In-year transfers are handled by the Admissions Officer at The Beaconsfield School. The Beaconsfield School has 155 places in Year 7 and 150 places in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 and we aim to be full in every year group at all times.
If your child currently attends a secondary school, please complete the In-Year Transfer Form link below. Upon completion, this form is automatically received by the Admissions Officer. Your child’s application is not complete until verification of your child’s age and verification of your address has been received:
Verification of child’s age: photograph of child’s birth certificate OR passport sent to admissions@beaconsfield.school
Verification of address: photograph of utility bill or Government letter including recent date and address sent to admissions@beaconsfield.school
Upon The Beaconsfield School receiving the In-year transfer form AND verification of age AND verification of your address, at that point, your child’s name will be added to the waiting list for the appropriate year group. The Admissions Officer will contact your child’s current school for feedback regarding your child’s needs.
When a place becomes available at The Beaconsfield School, the space is offered firstly to any child on the waiting list who has an EHCP and then then it is offered in line with our admission criteria.
In some instances, the child at the top of the waiting list has already found a place at an alternative setting and therefore the place is offered to the next on the list and so on. Therefore, it is not possible to estimate how long children will be on the waiting list as this depends on:
- 1) a student leaving the required year group to make a space available
- 2) students on the list still requiring a place at The Beaconsfield School
eg if your child is 3rd on the list but the children in 1st and 2nd place have been accommodated in alternative schools before The Beaconsfield School has a space available (and the parent has not informed The Beaconsfield School that their child no longer requires a place), your child will be offered the space immediately.
If you would like your child to attend The Beaconsfield School, we would advise you to complete the necessary paperwork and when a space becomes available for your child, the Admissions Officer will contact you immediately.
The Admissions Process
The Admissions Process is as follows:
- A) A place becomes available in the desired year and your child is the 1st on the list to require the space. The Admissions Officer will contact you immediately.
- B) A tour of the school with the Year Leader will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for your child, yourself/ves and the Year Leader.
- C) An online meeting using ‘Zoom’ will be arranged with the Assistant Head Teacher to discuss your child’s academic career to date, their hopes and aspirations and how The Beaconsfield School is able to progress their education etc Parent/s/Carers and student are required to attend this meeting (usually on a Monday afternoon).
- D) An online Admissions Form will be emailed to you to complete with details required by The Beaconsfield School and Buckinghamshire County Council. This needs to be completed as soon as possible.
- E) In-year transfer testing is arranged for the student to enable them to display their depth of knowledge ensuring they are placed in appropriate sets when they enter The Beaconsfield School. These tests are in English, Mathematics and Science and take approximately 2 to 2 ½ hours to complete during the school day (this will not detrimentally affect your child’s attendance percentage at their current school).
- F) The In-year transfer tests are passed to the Heads of Department for assessment and set allocation (the Heads of Department have a full teaching timetables and therefore the tests may take up to a week to mark). Upon set allocation, the results are forwarded for timetabling and mentor allocation.
- G) When an individual timetable has been created, a start date is agreed to ensure the student starts at The Beaconsfield School set for success with all the correct uniform and equipment requirements.
